Singapore

Singapore, or as it was named by Sang Nila Utama, a prince from Palembang, was named Singapura - a Sanskrit word which means “Lion City.” In fact, there was no real connection between lions and Singapore as there were never any lions in the land until they were placed in Singapore’s now-famous Zoo! Singapore’s local blend of “Singlish” is relatively well-known internationally, with two words - lah and sinseh - even present in the online version of the Oxford English Dictionary. Word for “Hello” in Singapore: Apa Kabar (Malay)
