Turkey interestingly sits in two continents, Europe and Asia. Although it is considered a European country, 97% of Turkey’s land area is actually on the Asian side!
The Turkish land was once ruled by people called the Ottomans, who created a massive empire and were one of the major powers in Eurasia and Africa during the early modern period.
Turkey’s most famous building is the Hagia Sophia. Located in the capital, Istanbul, the now-museum was once a basilica and was later an imperial mosque. It is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture and is said to have “changed the history of architecture.”
