“Netherlands” is a word that literally means “lower countries.” The country’s name is a more than apt description, with only 50% of Netherland’s land exceeding one metre above sea level! The Netherlands has also quickly become a hotbed of culture and has been the home of several influential cultural figures.
Rembrandt and Vincent van Gogh were both Dutch, while the Electronic Dance Music genre exploded in the Netherlands, with several world famous artists all emerging from the country.
